Dranouter Festival, Saturday 7th August 2004
Report and photos by Tina
The Dranouter gig was in a huge tent (twice as big as Rock Werchter's tent) which was fully crowded. The groups that played before Starsailor came on stage had difficulties to keep all audience quiet and interested in their performance. For Starsailor it was a piece of cake.
When the songs where melancholic (Alcoholic, Fever, Tie up my hands, Some of Us) everybody was listening carefully, when they played Four to the Floor, Silence is Easy, Poor Misguided Fool, everybody jumped and danced.
When James came on stage I thought he looked and smiled at me, but I was not 100% sure. But I was standing the day before at Rock in Haldern also on the first row, a month before at Werchter I was standing front stage, in March at Marconi also first row, Pukkelpop 2003 also front stage, always singing along, so perhaps he did recognize me.
After 2 songs he began to tell a little story. That he met someone today that told him that he came a specially to see Starsailor from New York. Then he continued talking and that he played the day before at a festival in Germany, and there was a girl standing on the first row, and that today the same girl was standing again on the first row.
I couldn't believe what I heard, he even called me a "girl", for a woman of my age, this is a bit of a compliment! At Dranouter they played only 1 new song, the one I heard the day before at Rock in Haldern and I liked the most, they did not play. So it's a pity for the Belgian fans they still have to wait a bit longer to hear it.
Anyway, I had a great weekend. The 2 gigs where totally different, and I'm happy that I saw both.
